A Student Creativity Program (PKM) team from Sultan Agung Islamic University (Unissula) has successfully qualified for the 39th National Student Scientific Week (PIMNAS). The team, hailing from the Bachelor of Pharmacy study program, will represent Unissula in this national-level student scientific competition, organized by the Indonesian Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology (Kemendiktisaintek) in collaboration with the host institution, Diponegoro University (Undip). The event is scheduled to take place from November 2–7, 2026.
The team, competing in the Exact Sciences Research (RE) category, is led by Miftahul Jannah, with members Heni Fitrianingsih, Hana Salsabila, Dhoifah Fauziyyah, and Nezza Dafa Putri Utami. All members are students of the Unissula Bachelor of Pharmacy program, under the guidance of their lecturer, Apt. Arman Syuryani, S.Farm., M.Pharm.Sci.
For the competition, the team is presenting research titled "Synergistic Combination of Chitosan/Na-Alginate Composite Nanoemulsions Carrying Yellow Johar Seed Extract in a Gummy Formulation as a Potential Inhibitor of *Plasmodium falciparum* 3D7 *In Vitro*."
The research explores the development of a composite nanoemulsion formulation—incorporating yellow Johar seed extract into a gummy format—as a candidate for inhibiting *Plasmodium falciparum* 3D7, evaluated through *in vitro* testing. This research is expected to contribute to the advancement of pharmaceutical science, particularly in the exploration of natural substances for antimalarial research.
Qualifying for the 39th PIMNAS is a proud achievement for Unissula. The competition involves a rigorous selection process; out of 21,237 PKM proposals submitted by public and private universities across Indonesia, only 1,121 teams were selected to receive funding. Out of that total, only 420 teams were invited to compete at the national level.
In the city of Semarang, five higher education institutions successfully secured invitations to participate in the 39th PIMNAS (National Student Scientific Week): Unissula, Universitas Muhammadiyah Semarang (Unimus), Undip (the host institution), Universitas Negeri Semarang (Unnes), and the Semarang State Polytechnic. This achievement serves as both a source of pride and a motivation for Unissula to continue enhancing the quality of its support for student creativity, reasoning, and research.
Unissula’s Vice Rector III, Dr. Achmad Arifulloh, S.H., M.H., expressed his full support for the delegation competing in the 39th PIMNAS. He hopes that all team members will find the process of preparing and presenting their research results to be smooth and successful.
"As university leadership, we are very proud of the Unissula PKM (Student Creativity Program) teams that have qualified for the 39th PIMNAS. May Allah SWT grant them ease and success in achieving the best possible results. Uphold scientific integrity, present yourselves with confidence, and use this event as a stepping stone to introduce innovations that are beneficial to society," he stated.
Support for student achievement is also being strengthened through the guidance and mentorship provided by Unissula’s Institute for Student and Alumni Development (LPKA). The Head of LPKA, Ady Fajar Putranto, S.E., M.M., is expected to continue fostering student development so that more ideas and research projects can evolve into national-level achievements.
Meanwhile, the Head of the Student Reasoning and Research Division (P2M) at Unissula’s LPKA, Dr. M. Said Hidayatullah, S.Pd., S.Hum., M.Pd., hopes that this success will inspire other students to confidently develop their ideas, conduct research, and compete at the national level.
This achievement is expected to serve as a catalyst for increasing both the quantity and quality of Unissula’s PKM proposals in the years to come. Through increasingly focused guidance, optimal mentorship from faculty members, and the students' own drive to innovate, it is expected that a greater number of teams from Unissula will qualify for PIMNAS in the coming period.
The success of Unissula’s Student Creativity Program (PKM) teams in reaching the 39th PIMNAS highlights the importance of collaboration among students, faculty advisors, university leadership, and the Student Affairs and Academic Development Institute (LPKA) in fostering a productive academic culture. More than just a competition, PIMNAS serves as a platform for students to test their ideas, develop their scientific capabilities, and introduce innovations intended to benefit the wider community.
