Unissula Faculty of Communication Students Field Trip to Malaysia

(2) KKL Malaysia The Faculty of Communication Sciences Unissula enhances its students' experiences through field trips or Field Work Lectures (KKL). KKLs are conducted at various top institutions both domestically and internationally. One of the most recent field trips by Fikom Unissula students was to Malaysia. They are Alvita Nur Azizah, Adelia Putri Pramesti, Sandriano Hermanto, and Fuguh Bagaskara Awaludin. They were accompanied by the Dean of the Faculty of Communication Sciences, Trimanah, SSos, MSi. "This year, the Faculty of Communication Sciences Unissula is expanding the scope of its student field trips. While in previous years, activities were only held domestically, primarily in Jakarta, this year students have the option to participate in field trips abroad to Kuala Lumpur and Singapore. The activities will take place from May 25-28, 2025," said Trimanah. She further explained that the main agenda of the field trip in Kuala Lumpur was to visit the School of Social Sciences and Arts at Sunway University Petaling Jaya, Selangor. They were welcomed directly by the Dean, Head of the Communication Sciences Study Program, and the Head of the Cooperation Division. There, the students received a direct explanation from the Dean about how the Sunway Group, a large Malaysian corporate group, established a foundation specifically for education as a form of its social responsibility to the community. This foundation later established schools from elementary to high school, as well as Sunway University. All schools and faculties at Sunway University are centrally located in Selangor, with two campuses located in other regions of Malaysia. The Sunway Group operates in real estate, construction services, healthcare, education, malls, leisure, hotels, trading and manufacturing, and more. All Sunway Group business units are located on an 800-hectare site, originally a barren former tin mine, which has been transformed into a modern, green and beautiful city known as Sunway City. Sunway City boasts numerous buildings integrated by pedestrian bridges, including campuses, schools, housing complexes, hospitals, malls, hotels, resorts and spas, and more. Here, Unissula's Faculty of Communication Sciences (Fikom) students are walking along the bridge from the School of Social Sciences and Arts to several other buildings, where they witness a lagoon and resort with clean water pools and lakes. No one would have guessed that the resort's lakes and pools were once former tin mining pits. Sunway University offers a curriculum comparable to that of Lancaster University in the UK, thanks to a partnership between the two. Graduates receive two degrees, one from Sunway and one from Lancaster. Undergraduate students at Sunway University study for three years, divided into nine semesters, including a short semester. Sunway University is currently recognized as the number one private university in ASEAN for 2025 by AppliedHE Rankings and as number one in Malaysia for Graduate Employability for 2025 by TalentBank. In the opportunity to discuss the curriculum and collaboration, the Dean of Fikom Unissula expressed his interest in establishing a collaboration in order to strengthen the quality of Fikom Unissula graduates by providing an opportunity for students to experience studying for 1 semester at Sunway where Fikom will later equalize the value of courses held by Sunway to the value of courses at Fikom Unissula. The Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences & Arts and also the head of the Communication Science Study Program at Sunway University welcomed this plan, and were open to discussing it further.
