Ir Ichwan Setiawan ST MT took the open doctoral examination in the Civil Engineering Doctoral Program Unissula on Tuesday (May 27, 2025). He presented his dissertation entitled "Design Model and Implementation Strategy for Bridge Construction Through Ship Channels as Water Traffic."
According to Ichwan, the problems encountered in the field were technical constraints during bridge construction, with many work adjustments due to the ineffectiveness of the DED results, which lacked proper guidelines. The criteria used in optimizing the construction management process for bridges with ship channels are essentially the main requirements for producing safe, efficient, and economical construction, namely ease of work, structural strength, quality (durability), and economy.
Given several conditions and the integration of bridge planning and implementation, it is necessary to implement a construction management strategy that integrates design models and implementation strategies for bridge construction over rivers with ship channels that carry water traffic more precisely and optimally.
The research method uses the Multiple-Criteria Decision Making (MCDM) technique based on the Analysis Hierarchy Process (AHP) – Expert Choice. AHP selects the alternative with the shortest Euclidean distance from the ideal solution and the furthest distance from the negative ideal solution. After collecting data using questionnaires from 70 respondents, the weighting of alternative bridge superstructure types and configurations, as well as the weighting criteria for abutments, were determined using the hierarchy process analysis technique.
The results showed that for construction requiring a vertical clearance of more than 3 meters, a multi-span bridge construction with a curved girder main span and two piers was used, and the approach bridge span used a pile slab. This allowed the abutments to be designed at a normal height and avoid high embankments at the approach sections.
The multi-span bridge model with a composite steel curved girder main span and a straight GKI girder approach bridge and pile slabs was the primary choice for bridges with ship channels for water traffic with roads along riverbanks.
