The Faculty of Engineering at Sultan Agung Islamic University (Unissula) continues to strengthen its internationalization efforts by developing partnerships with various universities worldwide. This initiative is being realized through academic visits to several universities in Europe. These activities serve to bolster cooperation in education, research, academic capacity building, and the mobility of both faculty and students.
The Unissula Faculty of Engineering delegation is scheduled to travel internationally from October 8 to November 1, 2026. The delegation comprises Prof. Dr. Ir. Slamet Imam Wahyudi, DEA; Prof. Dr. Ir. Henny Pratiwi Adi, ST, MT; and Ari Sentani, ST, MSc. They are accompanied by Raden Mas Kusuma Dilaga, SM (staff from Unissula’s Office of International Affairs), Yulia Indriani (a doctoral student in Civil Engineering), and Rahmatia Sarah (a research assistant at the Faculty of Engineering).
Prior to their departure, the delegation met with the Rector of Unissula, Prof. Dr. Gunarto, SH, MH, on Wednesday (October 7, 2026) to pay a courtesy call and bid farewell. This meeting underscored Unissula’s commitment to fostering international partnerships. The Rector also expressed his support for the internationalization agenda being pursued by the Faculty of Engineering.
The Rector stated that the Faculty of Engineering’s internationalization program represents a crucial step toward elevating the quality of education, research, and community service to a global level. He noted that international collaboration not only expands academic networks but also creates opportunities for faculty and students to gain experience, knowledge, and insights into best practices from universities around the world.
"Internationalization is a vital component of our efforts to enhance the quality of education, research, and community service. Through partnerships with various international universities, Unissula can strengthen its academic capacity while increasing the university's global contribution," said Prof. Gunarto.
He added that this push for internationalization aligns with Unissula’s increasingly proactive approach to launching international-class programs across various levels of study. The program is being developed across undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral levels. This initiative is expected to further strengthen graduate competitiveness, expand academic mobility, and elevate Unissula’s standing within international higher education networks.
Meanwhile, the Dean of the Unissula Faculty of Engineering, Dr. Abdul Rochim, ST, MT, expressed his support for these internationalization efforts. He noted that international collaboration has been an integral part of the Faculty of Engineering’s journey for over 15 years, involving partnerships with various leading educational centers and universities worldwide.
“The Unissula Faculty of Engineering has been implementing international collaborations for more than 15 years with various world-class educational institutions,” he stated.
According to him, this extensive experience serves as a vital asset for further expanding international networks. Collaborations are being developed in areas such as education, research, student exchanges, faculty capacity building, and the creation of joint academic programs. Funding support through Erasmus+ also presents a significant opportunity to enhance the quality and sustainability of these partnerships.
Conference in France
Kicking off the series of engagements in Europe, a delegation comprising Ari, Yulia, and Sarah will participate in the International Congress on Irrigation and Drainage (ICID), to be held in Marseille, France, from October 12 to 17, 2026. Supported by the World Bank and the World Water Council, the event focuses on topics such as food and water security, water conservation, and equitable access to resources. It serves as an opportunity to expand professional and academic networks on a global scale.
Participation in this international forum is also expected to open doors for research collaboration. Unissula faculty and students will have the chance to meet with academics and practitioners from various countries. These connections will serve as a valuable asset for developing research that incorporates global perspectives and networks. Istanbul University-Cerrahpaşa
Meanwhile, two delegates (Prof. Imam and Prof. Henny) will begin their European itinerary with a visit to Istanbul University-Cerrahpaşa, Türkiye, on October 18–19, 2026. The initial visit will focus on the Department of Civil Engineering. It is hoped that cooperation can subsequently be expanded to both the faculty and university levels.
Unissula already maintains a partnership with Istanbul University through its Faculty of Law. Consequently, the Faculty of Engineering sees an opportunity to broaden its collaborative network with Istanbul University-Cerrahpaşa, particularly in the field of civil engineering. This visit is expected to serve as the starting point for developing academic and research collaborations.
