Gus Sholah (KH Sholahudin Wahid) gave his scientific oration in then 77th Inauguration in  Sultan Agung Islamic University (Unissula) which took place in Sultan Agung Auditorium Kaligawe Campus. In the occasion he gave his deep insight on the election process and reoccurrence of tension between Islam and Indonesia.

“Congratulation for the people of Indonesia who have completed the stages of election relatively well, although there some weaknesses here and there that need to be improved. Hopefully we can get rid of the uncomfortable atmosphere during the campaign and the reconciliation process can be accelerated. Hopefully both candidate can restrain themselves and put the country’s and nation’s interest above the personal and group interest.” Said the administrator of Ponpes Tebu Ireng Jombang.

Still according to Gus Sholah “We have to learn from unpleasant situations from the past eight months. This is the first time we have an uncomfortable election situation like this. We must be able to analyze what is the cause of this situation. What I observed was that the situation arose because of the recurrence of tension between Islam and Indonesia. The tension was present when NU, Muhammadiyah and other Islamic organizations and Islamic parties still wanted Islam to be the foundation of the state. The tension was gone when Islamic mass organizations accepted the principle of Pancasila in 1984. And the provisions of Islamic law were accommodated in a number of Acts and Presidential regulations. The current tension starts with the statement of Basuki Cahaya Purnama, who is considered insulting to Islam.

He further asked the Indonesian people to hold back in making statement. “In the future, we must all avoid statements or political attitudes that could bring back the tension between Islam and Indonesia. The integration of Islam and Indonesia should not be disturbed anymore with statements or political attitudes that can interfere,” he said.

Furthermore, in front of thousands of  attendees, Gus Sholah encouraged Unissula graduates to always improve their competence and quality as well as the speed and accuracy of service in facing this disruptive era.
