Faculty of Engineering (FT) Unissula held an expert college event in cooperation with PT Tetrasa Geosinindo which is a provider of consulting services and geosynthetic providers in Indonesia. Expert lecture on (4/1) presented speaker, Ardhana, S.T., M.T., Geosynthetic expert of PT Tetrasa Geosinindo and Prof. Ir Pratikso, Ph.D who is a geotechnical expert at Unissula.

In the seminar, representatives from Geosisnindo explained about their excellent products and how the implementation techniques used in the field, included also some infrastructure projects involving the company.

In infrastructure projects, Geosynthetic is used to strengthen the structure of landfill as the foundation of a building, road or dam. One of the projects which has already been undertaken by Geosinindo is Balikpapan toll road construction project – Samarinda, Bendungan in Bogor, coastal reclamation in Makasar and many other projects spread across Indonesia.

According to Ardhana, the advantages of using Geosynthetic compared to other techniques are the efficiency of time and cost especially many other infrastructures built in Indonesia which are targeted to be completed soon.

“Geosynthetic is the result of a collaboration between civil engineering and industrial engineering made from polymer (a kind of plastic) to improve the foundation of the soil; there are many types according to its function.”

Meanwhile Pratikso expressed the need for civil engineering students to always update the construction technology which always adds new techniques in the implementation of construction projects every year.

“Students should always update the development of construction technology, such as Geosynthetic which is now widespread used in government construction projects” explained Pratikso
