Defeated UI, ITS, and NTU, Unissula Won International Bridge Design Competition in Singapore

The students of Unissula once again achieved brilliant achievements at international level. The latest achievements were made by four Civil Engineering students of the Faculty of Engineering who succeeded in becoming the overall champion in the Bridge Design Competition at Nanyang Technology University (NTU) Singapore, 9-10 March 2019.

They were Ardefian Piradifta Suharno and M. Fiko Prameswara who belonged to the Albiruni team that won the 1st place in the most economical design bridge award. While the Al Khawarizmi team with members: Brillyan Graha Ditarta and Ashfa Taqiya, won the second place in university category. While the third, fourth, and fifth winners were won by Institut Teknologi Sepuluh November (ITS), Universitas Indonesia (UI), and the host of NTU Singapore.

Welcomed by Unissula Rector, Ir. Prabowo Setiyawan, M.T., Ph.D., and Vice Rector III, Muhammad Qomaruddin, S.T., M.Sc., Ph.D., at the Unissula Rectorate, Wednesday afternoon (3/20/2019), the four students shared their struggle and atmosphere of the competition.

According to Ardefian, the competition was held for two days. The first day was the bridge building competition from balsa wood and preparation. The second day was the assessment by a number of aspects including the strength of the bridge he built. Unissula’s first team with the diamond-shaped truss bridge concept was able to withstand loads up to 79 kg, while the other team with a simple bridge model, could only withstand loads up to 59 kg.

Unissula Rector and Vice Rector III appreciated the achievements of Unissula students who succeeded in surpassing the work of Indonesian and international top university students. Unissula plans to reward these four students with Umrah and scholarships, expecting to encourage other students to gain international achievements.
