Unissula Held Socialization on International Publication Quality Improvement Scholarship in 2019

To prepare good quality Indonesian human resources (HR) and have international competitiveness through higher education, the Government of Indonesia continues to improve the quality of lecturers. Together with the Unissula Doctoral of Law Program (PDIH), the Directorate General of Science and Technology Resources and Higher Education (Kemenristekdikti) held a socialization program for International Publications Quality Improvement Scholarships (PKPI) or Sandwich-like in 2019 at the Faculty of Law, Unissula (16/5).

The activity was opened by Unissula Rector, Ir. Prabowo Setiawan, M.T., Ph.D. Attending as speakers were Juniarti Dwi Lestari (Head of Sub-Directorate of Educator Qualifications), Septien Prima Diassari, S.Kom., M.MSI (Head of Domestic Education), Two Reviewers namely Hanifa Maher Dennny (FKM Undip Lecturer) and John Pariwono, Ph.D (Overseas Scholarship Coordinator Ministry of Research, Technology and Higher Education).

Juniarti Dwi Lestari as Head of Sub-Directorate of Educator Qualifications stated that Directorate General of Science and Technology Resources and Higher Education continues to encourage the improvement in the quality of human resources in Indonesia through scholarship programs, one of which is for Doctoral Lecturers

“The condition of the current academic qualifications of lecturers, most lecturers still need an academic qualifications improvement to achieve a minimum standard of Master and Doctor. At present, the number of lecturers who have doctoral qualifications in Indonesia is very limited at only 1.000 doctors per year. Though ideally Indonesia should be able to produce up to 3000 Doctors annually. Therefore we continue to carry out activities to accelerate the improvement of the qualifications of Indonesian university lecturers by providing educational scholarships, one of which is the International Publication Quality Improvement Scholarship (PKPI) for Doctoral Lecturers,” he said.

Juniarti further explained that the existence of this Postgraduate scholarship has an important role for lecturers, for accelerating the improvement of the qualifications of Indonesian Higher Education lecturers, publications produced by the students of Higher Education, and to support the career of the Higher Education Lecturers.

Meanwhile, Head of Domestic Education, Septien Prima Diassari explained that the PKPI or Sandwich Like Scholarship was provided to improve the lecturers’ contribution in producing international publications. This scholarship is intended for Doctoral students who are studying at the BPPDN School/ Postgraduate Program organizer.

In his speech, the Unissula Rector emphasized that this socialization activity was very important for doctoral students to contribute more to Indonesia.

“Doctoral program students have the potential to provide the best and can contribute more to the country. Then this activity will provide more information and insights about International Publication Quality Improvement scholarships (PKPI) and increase the enthusiasm of Doctoral students to graduate quickly and excellent,” he explained.

In the activity, material on tips for finding overseas universities, academic communication were also presented and PKPI interview simulations conducted by the reviewer team.
