Socializing the Law on Halal Product Assurance, Commission VIII DPR RI Visit Unissula Halal Studies Center

Members of Commission VIII of the Republic of Indonesia House of Representatives (DPR-RI) paid a visit to Unissula campus in order to review the Unissula Global Halal Center (GHC) at the Unissula Campus Rectorate Building (20/5). The visit was related to the readiness of the community in implementing the Law on Halal Product Assurance (UU-JPH) which will be implemented from October 2019.

The group was led by Deputy Chairman of Commission VIII, H. Iskan Qolba Lubis, M.A. along with the members namely; Itet Tridjajati Sumarijanto, M.B.A, Dra. I gusti Agung Putri Astrid, M.A., Dra. Wenny Haryanto, S.H., Hj. Endang Maria Astuti, M.H., Drs. H. Suprayitno, Ir. Drs. Bambang Budi Susanto, Drs. Bisri Romly, M.M., H. An’im F. Mahrus, and Achmad Baidowi, M.Si. Also present were representatives from the Regional Office of the Ministry of Religion and representatives of the Halal Product Assurance Agency (BPJPH) Central Java region.

The group was welcomed by YBWSA Chairman, Hasan Toha, M.B.A, along with Unissula Rector, Ir. Prabowo Setiyawan, M.T., Ph.D. Vice Rector I, Drs. Bedjo Santoso, M.T., Ph.D., Vice Rector II, Dra. Eny Widayati, M.Si., Vice Rector III, Muhammad Qomaruddin, Ph.D., Head of Unissula Global Halal Center, drg. Suryono, S.H., M.M., Ph.D. and all leaders within Unissula.

In his speech, the Rector appreciated the visit, because Unissula’s halal study center was still classified as a new one which was just recently inaugurated, and it was expected that the visit could encourage Unissula’s GHC to be more developed and beneficial to the community.

“Unissula will help the government to succeed in the realization and implementation of the halal product assurance which will be effective immediately, it is expected that the application of the law can provide benefits not only for Muslims but for the larger community,” said the Rector.

Meanwhile, Iskan Qolba Lubis revealed that the purpose of the visit was to monitor the preparation of the community in implementing the JPH Law. The synergy of various parties, including those from tertiary institutions, can help speed up the process of educating the public about the law.

“This study center is very helpful for the government in implementing the JPH Law, in the future there must be a lot of participation from the community, both from religious organizations and community organizations from universities to succeed in the implementation of the Act,” said Deputy Commission VIII of the DPR-RI.
